i need a chat room for a site and am thinking of putting it with the other provider(its against kda t&c's). what free chat scripts are available, if tried a couple and they're pants. the server is a standar linux server so php/sql/ perl etc. cheers andy |

Re: chat room
The best chat room scripts tend to be written in Java and are constant running daemons - Which with most hosts is going to be an issue unfortunately. Chat rooms tend to be very resource intensive is they aren't running as a daemon as you've got many clients all making a request every couple of seconds to see if anyhting has updated. In theory the same is true with a daemonised process, but it can be much more efficient and can actually push the updates out to those that require them.

Re: chat room
I've found that with using IPB, I just bolted on a java applet that attached to a proper IRC server.
You can set the inital settings on the applet that force everyone into the same room, has worked well here for a number of months. Only downside is that some people don't have java installed in the beginnning. It's also very stable, surprisingly. |

Re: chat room
I know that I am comming in a bit late on this (been on holiday) but KDA do have a prinstalled chat script - never used it, do not know how good/bad it is. Just thought I would throw it in.
